Introducing
The Wattle Series
A celebration of fleeting beauty and resilience
Each year, I return to the wattle grove on Glenhaven Close, Umina Beach, a place that’s become part of my creative rhythm. This winter, the blooms were late and brief, yet their golden glow was as breathtaking as ever. I painted frantically for two weeks, racing the weather, the sun, and time itself to capture their essence before the colour faded.
These paintings are my response to that moment, the scent of spring, the chatter of magpies, the hum of life after rain. Created with expressive ink, thick paint, and pastel, each piece holds traces of the process itself: drips, gestures, and raw canvas left intentionally visible, echoing the natural landscape.
The Wattle Series is a family of small and large works, each one a heartfelt interpretation of the short-lived bloom which bring the promise of warmer and longer days ahead.
The originals are available now.

The tall diptych were painted en plein air at the foot of the wattle trees, where the scent of spring and the warble of magpies embraced me. Each panel captures the vertical rhythm of the trees, the sweep of branches, the dapple of light, and the fleeting brilliance of the bloom. I worked quickly, letting the ink run and the brush dance, chasing gesture over detail. These pieces are raw, expressive, and full of movement, my attempt to hold onto the energy of that golden moment before it faded. Wattle brings an optimistic promise of warmer weather and longer days.
Framed in black aluminium, ready to hang.
The Diptych
The two tall diptychs were initially painted en plein air at the foot of the wattle tree, where the scent of spring surrounded me. Each panel captures the vertical rhythm of the trees, the sweep of branches, the dapple of light, the darkness of the undergrowth in contrast to the brilliance of the bloom. I worked quickly, letting the ink run and the brush move, chasing gesture over detail. These pieces are raw, expressive, and full of movement–they happened. These were then worked on at home, applying the thicker paint of the blooms.
‘Brighter, longer days’ is currently on display at Deep Water Art Space, Woy Woy, if you’d like to see it for yourself.
